Hi,

My name is Doc, and I’m the attorney and recent bar taker behind Barcast Audio. More importantly, I’m a podcast and audiobook fanatic, who has spent tens of thousands of hours listening to audio content over the past decade. So when it came time for me to study for the bar exam, I was immeasurably disappointed to discovery that there didn’t seem to be any audio courses out there that recreated the elements of podcasting that I most enjoyed. Everything out there either seemed too dry, too gimmicky, or too unfocused to really give me what I was looking for. I was searching for something that balanced the necessarily scripted nature of teaching me the law with the feeling that I was having a friend explain something to me. I wanted updates, audio flashcards, and the feeling that the person I was listening to was someone I could talk to, not just some stuffy voice actor. I just wanted more. And that’s how Barcast was born.

I didn’t graduate at the top of my class, make law review, nail down a federal clerkship, or have any Big Law recruiters courting me for a job. In truth, I was a mediocre student, and I found much of law school some combination of boring, tedious, and difficult. But none of that stopped me from scoring in the 95% Percentile on the July 2020 UBE and passing the February 2020 Florida Bar Exam by a healthy margin just six months later.

How did I go from mediocre law student to two-time bar passer? Easy.

After discovering that I couldn’t find any audio courses that matched my needs, I decided to make some of my own. I made audio courses for all seven MBE subjects and began listening to them when I worked out, during my commute, and even sometimes as I fell asleep. When I had to go away for a weekend in the heart of bar prep for a cousin’s wedding, I spent my entire drive listening to Con Law rules and examples on repeat. By the time I returned to the library on Monday morning, I was shocked at how much I had retained over the weekend.

I’m the kind of person who can never sit still, so the fact that Barcast Audio allowed me to take a step away from the computer and go for a run, without feeling the guilt of slacking off, felt like a gift. And I wanted to share that gift with other law students and bar takers.
